Dr. Mohammed Abu Salmiya, Director General of Al-Shifa Medical Complex, said that the health sector in the Gaza Strip is facing severe challenges since the end of the war, noting that the territory has received only 10% of its essential medical supplies.
He added that Israel’s ongoing restrictions on the entry of medicines are causing the daily deaths of patients, expressing concern over the potential spread of viruses and infectious diseases amid the critical shortage of medical supplies.
According to Abu Salmiya, around 350,000 patients in Gaza require medication for chronic diseases, while the number of asthma cases has risen sharply due to the accumulation of war debris.
He also noted that 22,000 patients need treatment abroad, including 18,000 who have completed all necessary arrangements, but the ongoing blockade and closure of border crossings have prevented their medical transfers.
Abu Salmiya confirmed that 1,000 patients have died as a result of Israel’s blockade and the closure of crossings, warning that the health situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate.
He concluded by saying that Al-Shifa Medical Complex is working on plans to revive the health sector and meet patients’ needs as quickly as possible.
UNRWA Launches Comprehensive Medical Screenings for Schoolchildren in Gaza
The UNRWA School Health Department in the Gaza Strip announced the launch of comprehensive medical screening services for schoolchildren in the central and southern areas of the enclave.
The initiative aims to protect the health and safety of students, and includes a wide range of medical checkups and preventive health services.
