A man in his 30s dies and another is arrested following a stabbing incident in Cork city.

Emergency services arrived shortly after 4:30 a.m.

A man in his 30s has died following a stabbing incident in Co Cork in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Gardai said they are investigating all circumstances surrounding the death following the incident in Hollyville, Hollyhill, Cork City.

Shortly after 4.30am, Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene following reports of a “disturbance” involving two individuals in Hollyville, Hollyhill, Cork City.

A man in his 30s was rushed to Cork University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. An autopsy will take place soon.

The scene is currently preserved for technical examination. The state pathologist’s office has been notified.

A second man, aged in his 50s, was arrested at the scene and is currently detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, at a Garda station in Co. Cork.

A Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) has been appointed to lead the investigation from the incident room at Gurranabraher Garda Station. A Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has also been appointed to support the family of the deceased.

In a statement, Gardai said: “Anyone who has camera footage, including dashcam recordings, of those who were in the vicinity of Hollyville, Hollyhill, Cork City, between 3.30am and 4.30am this morning, Sunday 16 November 2025, is asked to make it available to Gardaí’s investigation.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Gurranabraher Garda Station on (021) 4946200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

“Investigations are ongoing.”
