ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Pakistan selectors announced the national team for the next edition three-match T20 international series against Sri Lankawith the return of Shadab Khan and the notable exclusion of senior players Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi emerging as the main talking points ahead of the tour.

Shadab Khan was recalled to the T20 setup after recovering from shoulder surgery and regaining fitness through competitive cricket overseas. The all-rounder’s return is seen as a boost to Pakistan’s middle-order and bowling options, especially as the team looks to strike a balance between experience and experimentation ahead of major international commitments.

On the other hand, the absence of former captain Babar Azam and spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi has sparked a debate among fans and analysts. Officials say, however, that the decision is part of a rotation and workload management planboth players currently involved in foreign leagues. Other senior cricketers, including Mohammad Rizwan and Haris Rauf, were also rested to manage fatigue and avoid burnout during a busy international schedule.

Salman Ali Agha has been retained as captain and will lead a team with a mix of emerging talents and seasoned performers. The series is seen as a crucial opportunity for the team management to test combinations, assess the strength of the bench and give visibility to players who could play an important role in the future. Several younger faces and fringe players have been included as Pakistan look to strengthen their depth ahead of the world tournaments.

The T20 series is set to be played in Sri Lanka next month, with matches expected to offer competitive cricket against a strong home side. Pakistan’s selectors believe the tour will provide valuable insight into the team’s preparation and adaptability to conditions in the subcontinent.

With key players rested and others returning from injury, all eyes will be on the performance of the revamped squad and whether the changes will bear fruit as Pakistan fine-tune their strategy for the challenges ahead.
