Wellington: A New Zealand woman of Korean origin is tried in trial in Auckland, accused of having murdered her two children, whose bodies were discovered in suitcases left in an abandoned storage locker.
Hakyung Lee, 44, pleaded not guilty in the high court for killing his children, Muu Jo, 6 years old, and Yuna Jo, 8, in June or July 2018, shortly before moving to South Korea.

Their bodies were found in 2022 by a South Auckland family, which bought the content of a storage locker abandoned during an online auction and came across the remains after opening the luggage that came with the purchase, then called the police. The family is not linked to death.
Lee was born in South Korea and went under the name of Ji Eun Lee before changing it in 2018, almost at the same time when she returned to South Korea. She was extradited to New Zealand in November 2022 for death.
Lee kept his head down and remained silent while he was on the platform on Monday. When the court clerk asked her whether she had pleaded guilty or not guilty, she shook her head. Judge Geoffrey Venning has recorded non -guilty pleas.

The father of children died of cancer in 2017, according to local media, citing court documents.
The cause of the death of children remains unknown. The court documents said they could have been killed by sleeping medicines prescribed in Lee and detected in their bodies by forensic investigators, but another cause of death has not been excluded, according to Radio New Zealand.
It is alleged that Lee killed her two children between June 23 and July 27, 2018. She stopped paying rental fees for her Auckland storage unit when she encountered financial difficulties in 2022, RNZ reported.
