Charlie Kirk, a right -wing activist and close ally of President Donald Trump, was fatally killed during an event in the Western Utah State. This is what we know.
At a university
Kirk, the leader of the largest conservative movement of young people in the United States, whom he co-founded in 2012 at the age of 18, spoke around noon on the University of Utah Valley campus.
Dressed in a white t-shirt with the word “freedom” on the front, Kirk was sitting on a chair in a tent while answering questions from the general public gathered around him.
The event was the first of about fifteen planned across the country until the end of October.
A shot, then shouts
The former member of the Utah Congress, Jason Chaffetz, who was at the event, told Fox News that Kirk answered a question about “transgender shooters, mass shooters and in the middle of this, the shot sounded”.
The 31 -year -old man collapsed and blood sprang from his neck, according to a video clip from a nearby place.
Kirk was then precipitated on a stretcher by its security details.
“As soon as this shot has died, it fell back,” said Chaffetz. “Everyone hit the bridge … Many people started screaming, then everyone started running.”
Man hunting for killer in progress
The authorities have not arrested a suspect in the Kirk shooting, described as a “targeted attack” in a statement from the UTAH Ministry of Public Security.
“The shooter would have drawn from the roof of a building to the site of the public event in the student yard,” he said.
Two men were briefly detained and released after being interviewed by law enforcement officials while manhunt continued.
A man, George Zinn, was accused of obstruction.
None of the two men has “current links with the shooting,” the authorities said.
Trump announces Kirk’s death
Trump announced the death of Kirk, writing on his social platform Truth: “The big, and even legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead.”
On the other side of the political spectrum, democratic personalities have also condemned the shooting, including Kamala Harris, who said that “political violence has no place in America”.
Trump swears repression
Although a suspect has not yet been identified, Trump has linked the rhetoric of the “radical left” to the murder of Kirk and has sworn to make a repression.
“This kind of rhetoric is directly responsible for terrorism that we see in our country today,” he said in a dark four-minute video, sitting in the office resolved in the oval office.
“My administration will find each of those who have contributed to this atrocity and other political violence, including the organizations that finance and support it,” said the American president.
