Channel crossings reach 30,000 this year in record time while the new secretary at the House Slame les smugglers

After 1,097 migrants crossed the Strait aboard 17 boats on Saturday, the total of 2025 has now reached 30,100 people, according to home office figures.

Confirmation comes after the appointment of the new interior secretary, Shabana Mahmood, who was promoted to the post of Secretary of Justice as part of a new government on the “service”.

After the confirmation of the past stage, Ms. Mahmood said that the figures making the dangerous journey were “completely unacceptable” and that the “One-in, One-out” agreement concluded with France last month would see the first deportations “imminently”.

The figure increased by 37% on this point last year (22,028) and 37% higher than this stage of 2023 (21,918), according to Anaylsis.

This is the earliest point of a calendar year in which the 30,000 brand has been adopted since data on channel crossings were reported for the first time in 2018.

Last year, the figure was not adopted before October 30 and in 2023, it was never reached, level passages totaled 29,437 for the whole year.

In 2022, the number was reached on September 21.

The interior secretary said on Sunday: “These small level crossings are completely unacceptable and the viles of people behind them are wreaking havoc on our borders.

“Thanks to our agreement with France, people crossing small boats can now be detained and withdrawn in France and I expect the first feedback imminently.

“Protection of the British border is my priority as a secretary at home and I will explore all the options to restore order to our immigration system.”

In addition to the reshuffle of the cabinet, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said he wanted to accelerate efforts to empty asylum hotels before the next elections, but did not commit to an appointment.

The defense secretary told LBC News on Sunday that plans were developed to use old military bases to house asylum seekers instead of controversial hotels.

“I think you will start to see Keir Starmer insist that treating small boats, resolving the illegal immigration crisis, is one of the jobs of the whole government, not just the home office,” the defense secretary told Sky.

He said that part of this would involve looking for asylum seekers in “temporary” housing on military sites, but has not confirmed a date on which such transfers could take place.

John Healey said he was working with the home office and looked at sites belonging to the Ministry of Defense.

He is one of the policies expected after the reshuffle of Sir Keir Starmer – while he tries to win back the support of the reform.

The head of the United Kingdom’s reform, Nigel Farage, previously said that he wanted to expel women asylum seekers to the Taliban in Afghanistan if he becomes Prime Minister.

Addressing radiudiffusers on Sunday, John Healey said that military planners were drafted in border command, while ministers planned to use defense sites to house asylum seekers.
