The Prisoners’ Media Office reported that prisoner Hanan Barghouti, 60, from the town of Kobar in the Ramallah district, is being subjected to ongoing repressive measures, maltreatment, and starvation in Israel’s Damon Prison.
The office stated in a Tuesday statement that Barghouti had previously been released under the “Freedom Flood” deal, but the Israeli occupation re-arrested her in a clear violation of the exchange agreement’s terms.
It noted that she, along with other female prisoners, faces systematic oppression, including continuous handcuffing and room raids. Several major crackdowns have been recorded, including the suppression of Room 10 on October 13, 2025, and Rooms 5 on October 5 and 7, 2025.
The statement added that the prison administration deliberately insults the female prisoners with abusive language daily, prevents any communication between rooms, and punishes any attempts immediately.
Prisoners are forced to sit on the floor at Maghrib prayers and to kneel facing the wall at midday prayers, in clear violation of their human dignity.
Despite her advanced age, Hanan Barghouti has faced repeated arrests; this is her third detention. She was first arrested on September 4, 2023, and released after the exchange deal in November 2023, following two months in detention. She was re-arrested in March 2024 for nine months under administrative detention and released in December 2024. A few months later, she was arrested for the third time on September 30, 2025.
Barghouti now faces the threat of administrative detention again, as her file was converted to administrative detention one month after her latest arrest. She has been issued a three-month administrative detention order, plus an additional three weeks.
