Two senior advisers from US President Donald Trump – Peter Navarro and Kevin Hassett – have brutally criticized India for continuing to import Russia oil in the middle of the current war in Ukraine, accusing New Delhi to have undergone world stability and threaten future American links in India. It comes even if the American secretary of the Treasury, Scott Bessent, described the relationship between the United States and India as “very complicated”, but expressed his optimism that the two countries “would finally meet”. Peter Navarro, Trump’s sales advisor, who previously called India “the Maharaja of the prices”, now blamed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Moda for the Ukraine War. Even when he was corrected by the anchor of news, he argued that it was “the war of Modi”. He seemed to lose his calm and said the Indians were arrogant to buy Russian oil. He also blamed India for resetting links with China. Previously, Trump’s press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump had imposed prices on India to put pressure on Russia to put an end to the Ukraine War.
Navarro says that the Ukrainian war is the “Modi War”
In an interview Bloomberg televisionThe balance of powers, Trump’s sales advisor Peter Navarro said that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was partly responsible for the extension of the war in Ukraine. He argued that the continuous purchase of Russian petroleum by India harmed American interests and said that American taxpayers indirectly funded the conflict. When the anchor said that the war was initiated by Russia, Navarro insisted that it was “Modi War”, criticizing India as an arrogant and calling the country to act in a more responsible way as the greatest democracy in the world.
“Everyone in America loses because India buys Russia oil,” said Navarro, suggesting that American taxpayers actually subsidize war. When the anchor corrected him, stressing that it was “Putin’s war”, Navarro doubled: “No, I mean Modi war!” He continued: “The Indians are so arrogant on this subject. They say: “We can buy oil from whoever we want”. India, you are the greatest democracy in the world. Navarro’s remarks reflect growing frustration in certain American political circles on India’s refusal to join Western sanctions against Moscow. New Delhi has constantly defended its energy purchases as a national interest, arguing that it needs affordable energy for its 1.4 billion citizens. Adding to the criticism, Kevin Hassett, another economic adviser from the Trump era, warned that India’s position could compromise relations with the Trump administration. “If the Indians do not move, then President Trump does not go either,” said Hassett, which implies that the president would take a more difficult line on the Russian energy links of India, even when a 50% price comes into play.

Trump, on July 31, imposed modified prices on its business partners, citing an current national emergency. The United States had stopped the prices of April 2, giving countries a 90-day window to sign a trade agreement with America. In new prices, the Trump administration imposed a 25% rate on India. Trump then announced an additional 25% rate on India for buying Russian oil and warned of doing the same with other nations. In all, the 50% price of Trump on India is now in force. Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated his government’s commitment to farmers and small businesses. In a daring message “Swadeshi”, he said that businessmen should keep a big advice outside their establishments, saying that they were selling “Swadeshi” products, urging citizens to buy only “manufactured in India” products this festival season. He also reiterated that the country will not compromise on the interests of farmers and small businesses.
